Achievements To Date

COGOMPS made submissions to the constitution
drafting coordinating committee (CDCC) in Abuja. It would
be recalled that from submissions such as this, agenda was drawn
up for deliberation by members of the constitutional conference.

Members of the conference of elders, matrons,
patrons and clergy met with the national exco of the congress on
Monday 15th June, 1998 in Calabar, Cross River state capital and
made recommendation to the then head of state, Gen. Abdusalami
Abubakar on the way forward which was contained in our personal
letter to the head of state and reflected on some national and
local newspapers. In our submission, we recommended among other
things; the encouragement of multi-party system etc.

Between 1997 through 2003, COGOMPS have made
series of personal submissions on the way forward and the
achievement of true development, peace, etc through contacts
with the government (both federal and state) and the people of
the gas and oil mineral producing states. Issues attended to and
achieved are:

Handing over to a democratically elected
government under a self-financing multi-party structure.

Antidote to future forceful seizure of power
in Nigeria.

Solution to the fuel scarcity in Nigeria.
-
Inter and intra ethnic crises management.
-
The 13% derivation principle.
-
Abrogation of the onshore/offshore
dichotomy.
-
The improvement of labor salaries
-
The sustenance of the Niger Delta Dev.
Commission (NDDC).
